They’ve simplified their inital automated call.  Now instead of talking about President Obama and [...]

Where To Save Birthday Money For Kids

I recently attended a birthday for one of my kids’ friends, and was blown away by the amount of cash gifts they received. Apparently, giving cash is cool again, and I was impressed by the generosity from mostly family members, but a few family friends, too.
My kids occasionally receive a little birthday money themselves, along [...]

Estate Planning: Are You Ready When Your Time Comes?

My close call with death last week instantly had me thinking… is my family ready in case I bite the big one? (By the way, I never understood that expression – what are you biting exactly?) I have a small family just my wife and Jake, our dog. My wife earns a [...]

Don’t Waste Money Financing a Car for More Than 3-5 Years

As if financing the purchase of a rapidly depreciating asset isn’t bad enough, financing it for an extended period of time is even worse. Financing the purchase of a car or truck for more than 5 years just so you can afford the payments is not a wise financial move, regardless of how bad you [...]

Which Coupon Code Sites Do You Use?

I’m always on the the search for the best coupon code sites. They make shopping online easier and cheaper than running out to the store.

Last week we were looking for a new set of Thule racks for my car. We realized that with three kiddos, we’re going to need to put a rocket box on top for vacation next month.

We ended up ordering Inno racks from ORS Racks Direct, using the 10% off code extra10 that I found at Retail Me Not. Inno is the Japanese equivalent of Thule, at a fraction of the cost.

Here are some of my favorite coupon code sites. I’m always on the lookout for more. Which coupon code sites do you use?

Weekly Roundup: Northwest Heat Wave Edition

My friends in the northwest tell me it’s been hot lately, and just today I read where Seattle broke a record temperature set back in 1941. Forgive me for not having much sympathy, as temperatures in the south hover in the high 90’s (and higher) from the end of May to early September. Of course, [...]

Money Tunes – Songs About or Involving Money

If you’re like me, money is constantly at the back of your mind.  Most everything you do during the day is somehow tied to money; you’re earning it, spending it, saving it, etc.  I guess that’s why money and money related topics make an appearance in so many songs.  Here are some “money tunes” for [...]

It’s amazing [...]

re-engineering your thinking

I spend a lot of time working on business process re-engineering (famously promoted in Keith Ferrazi’s “Never Eat Alone,” a great book), or business process management, or whatever you want to call it these days. If you aren’t familiar with it, I’ll define it this way:  you take a company organized along function lines – [...]
